The austerity debate will not prevent the rich from
splurging their wealth in conspicuous consumption or
motivate them to contribute for improving the lot of the
poor; if it alerts the public to the ways of the
prodigal sons and daughters in politics, in the
bureaucracy, in the entertainment business and among the
elite middle class , that would be a gain.

LOVE-STRUCK HARYANA GIRL MASSACRE 7 OF FAMILY
ROHTAK: A sense of outrage has gripped the
Kaboolpur village of Rohtak district where a teenaged
girl in collusion with her lover allegedly murdered
seven members of her family on September 14 following
opposition to the couple’s affair because of their same
‘gotra’. A day after the couple’s arrest, the shocked
relatives of the girl demanded that the two should be
hanged.

MOBILE NUMBER PORTABILITY IN METROS BY DEC 31
New Delhi: Mobile number portability (MNP)
will be implemented from December 31 in metros and
category ‘A’ service areas, and by 20th March, 2010, in
rest of the country, telecom regulator TRAI said. The
MNP facility will enable subscribers to retain their
cell phone numbers even after changing service
providers.

New Delhi: The Bethel Gospel Fellowship
remembered God's faithfulness by celebrating the 13th
anniversary on 6th September 2009. Pastor Daniel Kumar
of Good News Centre was the guest speaker for the

BIBLE SOCIETY OF INDIA RELEASES ESV STUDY BIBLE
New Delhi: Another feather in the cap of
Bible Society of India, the English Standard Version
Study Bible was released on a solemn occasion held at
the Speaker’s hall of the Constitution Club, New Delhi.
Lt. Governor Tejendra Khanna blessed the occasion as the
Chief Guest for the occasion. Bishops of Church of North
India, Baptist Church, Methodist church and leaders of
many Christian organisations witnessed the function.

NOT TO CHALLENGE DELHI HIGH COURT ON GAY RIGHTS:
UNION CABINET
New Delhi: A divided Union Cabinet
formally announced its decision not to challenge Delhi
High Court order legalising homosexuality before the
Supreme Court. The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh, decided to play it safe after some
senior members expressed reservations about the
political impact of legalising gay sex and decided to
leave a decision on article 377 to the Supreme Court,
which will hear the case on October 1.

PANEL FOR AMENDMENT TO CHRISTIAN DIVORCE LAW
The Law Commission has recommended to the Union
government to amend the law to empower a deserted
Christian woman to file a petition to divorce her NRI
husband, which otherwise is barred in the existing Act
enacted during the British rule 150 years ago. In its
report, Law Commission chairman A R Laxmanan said: “The
Law Commission has come to the conclusion that Section 2
of the Divorce Act, 1869, insofar as it concerns the
jurisdictional rule in regard to petitions for divorce,
is not only not in tune with the present times but is
also harsh upon Christian women in India.”

REDDY'S DEATH CALLED DIVINE PUNISHMENT
New Delhi: September 14 – Hindu
nationalists are calling the helicopter-crash death of
Andhra Pradesh state’s chief minister, a Christian,
divine punishment for his so-called conversion agenda.
The same allegation of a “conversion agenda” fueled
persecution in the state for more than five years.
Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy, a second-generation
Christian in the Church of South India, and four
officials were confirmed dead when their helicopter was
found on Sept. 3 in the state’s dense forest area of
Nallamalla.

MEMBERS OF RS SEEK SPECIAL LAW TO COMBAT HONOUR
KILLINGS
New Delhi: The government said it deplored
crimes committed allegedly to uphold the honour of the
family or the victim or women in general as members in
the Rajya Sabha across the political spectrum expressed
outrage at recent incidents, demanding special laws to
tackle the problem. The Home Minister P. Chidambaram
told the House that the government would examine whether
`honour killing’ could be defined separately, while
urging the States to investigate, prosecute and punish
the people involved in with such crime through fast
track. “In a few cases if exemplary punishment can be
handed out to perpetrators that will send a message…,”
he said.
