CHRISTIANS DIVIDED OVER CRUMB’S COMIC BOOK BIBLE
The
counterculture American cartoonist Robert Crumb has
taken on arguably his most controverisal work yet, by
producing an illustrated version of the Book of Genesis.
Crumb, best known for his 1960s X-rated comic strip
Fritz the Cat, has spent the past five years working on
the new book, which illustrates the first 50 chapters of
the Bible.

WCC HEAD PREACHES UNITY AT NORTH KOREAN CHURCH
The head
of the World Council of Churches preached to a North
Korean congregation emphasizing the importance of
cooperation and unity in a country known for its
reclusiveness and for having the most heavily
militarized border in the world. By invitation of the
Korean Christian Federation of North Korea, WCC General
Secretary Dr. Samuel Kobia shared with the nearly 200
members of Bong Soon Church in Pyongyang the letter that
the Apostle Paul had written to members of the new
church in Corinth at a time when problems of divisions
had emerged.

California (USA): New research conducted
indicates that living in a married two parent household
is a key factor in a student¹s academic success, but
there are ways that single parents can narrow the gap.
In a speech before the Centers for Disease Control of
the Department of Health and Human Services, William
Jeynes, professor at California State University at Long
Beach and a nonresident scholar at Baylor University,
shared that the farther away from a two biological
parent family structure, the greater the risk for the
child.

In a
rare interview, controversial preacher and faith healer
Benny Hinn laid some of his cards on the table, saying
he’s been wanting to answer his critics for 20 years.

'BLASPHEMY LAW ROOT CAUSE OF VIOLENCE AGAINST
PAKISTAN CHRISTIANS’
Mr.George Murad, a prominent Pakistani Christian in the
United States had said the “blasphemy law is the root
cause of violence against minority Christians in
Pakistan”. The 60-year-old, born in a famous Christian
village Khushpur in district Faisalabad in Punjab
province, who immigrated to the States in 1999, in an
interview with Pakistan Christian Post said if the
blasphemy law is abolished altogether, “it will create
harmony in society and respect for other religions which
shall prevent false accusations of blasphemy on
Christians.

INDIA HEADING FOR DIABETES EXPLOSION, WARNS GLOBAL
MEET
MONTREAL: India leads the world in the looming
epidemic of diabetes, the 20th annual World Diabetes
Congress of the International Diabetic Federation (IDF)
was told. In its annual report, the IDF said India
currently has the highest number of 50.8 million people
suffering from diabetes, followed by China with 43.2
million and the US with 26.8 million. The report
projected 58.7 million diabetes cases in India by 2010 -
almost 7 per cent of its adult population.

MARATHON
London: Christians in Frome are undertaking
an
unusual marathon - reading the bible non-stop for 76
hours. Over four days, 150 people aged from nine to 90
will complete the reading in slots lasting 15 minutes.
The event is being organised by Frome Area Churches
Together and will raise £1000 for the Anglican
Archbishops’ Appeal for Zimbabwe. “It’s going to be
quite an undertaking,” said Reverend David Brinn,
Churches Together chairman. The marathon, which
comprises of 66 books of the bible read in 300 sessions,
will finish on Sunday, 11 October.

York (USA): The first one was in Lausanne,
Switzerland, in 1974. The second was in Manila in 1989.
The third will be in Cape Town in 2010.
I’m talking about the massive worldwide conferences on
evangelism that began as the brainchild of evangelist
Billy Graham, along with British Anglican theologian
John Stott and Australian Anglican Bishop Jack Dain.
They have since taken on a life of their own. One year
from now, the Third Lausanne Conference on World
Evangelization will take place from Oct. 16-25 in South
Africa.
