 DISCOVER YOURSELF!
- Dr.C.S.Blesson

We spend lots and lots of our time to understand various things. We take time to study what is around us and is willing to invest our everything to learn new things. It is a fascinating fact that many of us don’t know much about ourselves! How will we react when different situations come before us? When we succeed, when we are tempted, when tragedy strikes us, when we are ridiculed and humiliated, when we are in dire need…What makes us different from others? In short, do we know who we are? Take some time to think!

Discover yourself in times of success
As king Nebuchadnezzar walked along his palace one evening, he saw the splendour of his own mighty works and patted himself on his back. He was awestruck by his own success, became proud and boasted about himself. Do we boast like Nebuchadnezzar when we are successful? It is very common to see youngsters to claim and shout ‘I am great’, ‘I am the best’, ‘I am the ultimate’, ‘I am the champion’ etc. Are you one of those?

Discover yourself in times of temptation
The servant of Elisha named Gehazi saw how God did wonders through his master. He was disappointed when Elisha did not accept donations from Naaman. He thought that he could make use of his master’s name and make some quick bucks. He decided to play a trick and put himself in a slippery slope! He went and poured out lies in front of Naaman and his associates, and got what he wanted. He comes back and gets the consequence, which he never wanted! Are you one of those who place yourself at difficult situations and get yourself into trouble?

Discover yourself in times of tragedy
Tragedy struck in the house of Job for apparently no reason. No one could explain why these misfortunes took place and it is still a mystery. Job interestingly was not only was grieving because of all the loss and death in the family but also because of the living! His wife and friends tormented him. His wife could not bear the fact the Job was still trusting in God. She urged him to curse God and get lost…die. Are you one of those who celebrate when thing go well and blame God and others when things go wrong?

Discover yourself in times of need

The widow of Zarephath lost all her hope, not just for her but also for her son. She was preparing to die after a small last meal! She could not see any hope anywhere and was disappointed with life. She could not even think of anything optimistic. All she wanted was…death! Her physical need was so overwhelming that she could not think of anything other than dying. Do you dear friend want to die and disappear when needs weigh you down?

Discover yourself in times of ridicule and humiliation
Nehemiah was successful in his profession and held a very high position at the king’s office. He wanted to start a new project in the city of Jerusalem. Despite all odds, he tried his best to unite all the people to rebuild a wall around the city. There were a few who came and laughed at his initiative. Sanballat, Tobiah and others joined together and started to ridicule Nehemiah and all those who were putting their time, resources and strength in to the building project! Are you one like these guys who ridicule others’ initiatives? Or do you stand upright and ignore and go and be a part of the grand plan to build?

Spend some time and think, it is very important to think who we are at a very young age! Discovering yourself in the light of God is an amazing experience. Do it today!
