PRIESTS: CBCI MEDIA MEET
A two-day hectic meeting of communication experts and
seminary formators from across India concluded in
Bangalore September 8th, at Nava Spoorti Kendra.
Organised by the Catholic Bishops Conference of India’s
(CBCI)Commission for Social Communications, the
participants refined and fine-tuned a resource-book
‘Communications in formation’ intended to be introduced
in seminaries across India.

GURGAON MOLESTATION CASE: POLICE DELAY FIR
New Delhi, November 9, 2009: Police in
Gurgaon are failing to show empathy and sensitivity
towards the victims of sexual and other physical
violence, especially those from the North-Eastern states
of India. Policemen at the DLF Phase 2 police station
refused to register the complaints of a Naga girl who
claims to have been molested by a show room manager in
the Gurgaon Metropolitan Mall. The 50 hour delay in
registering the complaint has given long enough time for
the culprit to come up with ideas to confront the
victim.

DENGUE ALARM IN DELHI
Delhi: The total number of those suffering
from the vector-borne disease Dengue in the national
capital this season has climbed to 438. Delhi has seen a
spurt in the number of dengue cases with the last 10
days registering over 20 cases per day on an average.
Two persons have died due to the disease so far.

CHURCH DEMANDS EARLY ENACTMENT OF COMMUNAL VIOLENCE
BILL
New Delhi (Christian Today): The Christian
community Saturday held a national consultation to
deliberate on a communal violence bill which it observed
must be earliest promulgated into a legislation with
certain amends and additions. Attended by religious
heads, lawyers and human rights activists, the
consultation in New Delhi endorsed the immediate
implementing of the Communal Violence (Prevention,
Control & Rehabilitation of Victims) Bill, 2005 in the
backdrop of growing religious violence in the society.

BJP CHIEF WANTS CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO PREVENT
CONVERSIONS
Delhi, Nov 7 2009: To further its campaign
against Christianity, the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP) has demanded an amendment in the
Indian constitution to check religious conversions. The
party’s president Rajnath Singh while addressing a
function in Bhopal on Oct. 31 said foreign forces were
involved in large-scale conversions through inducements
and hence an amendment in the constitution was
essential.

PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS REMEMBERED ON NOV 8
Delhi: In one of the largest prayer events
on Sunday, Nov. 8, thousands of churches from over 150
countries prayed for the persecuted Christians across
the globe. An initiative of the World Evangelical
Alliance, the International Day of Prayer for the
Persecuted Church (IDOP) prepared an occasion to offer
prayers for “thousands of our Christian brothers and
sisters around the world who suffer persecution, simply
because they confess Jesus Christ as Lord.”

BERNARD BLESSING BARRED FROM PREACHING IN KERALA
Trivandrum: World-renowned evangelist and
prophet Pastor Bernard Blessing was restrained from
preaching at a convention organised by Pentecostal
groups in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The meetings,
which were to be the largest ever public gathering the
city has ever seen, were scheduled from 2 to 4 November
2009. The Ghana-based preacher who was to address a
three-day gathering at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium was
prohibited from speaking after Hindu groups pressured
the police citing visa norms.

SANGLIANA: POLICE ACTING HASTILY ON FALSE COMPLAINTS
AGAINST CHRISTIANS
Former police commissioner of Bangalore Dr. HT Sangliana
lashed out at Hindutva outfits falsely implicating
Christians on cooked up conversion charges in Karnataka.
Talking to press persons after two incidents of alleged
conversion surfaced on the media, Sangliana said the
accusations were part of a ploy to create fear
“psychosis” in the minds of Christians and pit the
public against the minority community.

The Church of South India on Tuesday was honored with
the International Environment Conservation Award for its
ecological intervention as a faith based community. The
award by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

BILLY GRAHAM CELEBRATES 91ST BIRTHDAY
Evangelist Billy Graham spent the first November weekend
receiving several family members at his western North
Carolina home to celebrate his 91st birthday today.
“I’ve experienced God’s gracious love in a personal way
all these years,” Graham said. “Today my heart is filled
with gratitude to the Lord for all He has done for me,
and for all the prayers from so many people over the
years.”

REFORMED CHURCH IN AMERICA SINKING SHIP IMPLODING,
SAYS PROFESSOR
The
Reformed Church in America is a sinking ship, says one
Reformed believer. “Listen. Do you hear them? Those are
the gentle, mournful sounds of a denomination
imploding,” wrote Donald A Luidens, professor of
sociology at Hope College, Michigan, in November’s

Nov: A ministry that supports persecuted
Christians launched a campaign to press Iran to release
two young female converts who have been detained for
eight months in one of the most notorious prisons in the
country. Open Doors USA is calling on people to send a
“respectful” message to Iranian Ambassador to the United
Nations Mohammad Khazaee to request that Maryam
Rostampour, 27, and Marzieh Amirizadeh Esmaeilabad, 30,
be released immediately.

UK CATHOLICS 'DISAPPOINTED' WITH SEX EDUCATION PLANS
The Catholic Education Service for England and Wales
says it is “disappointed” with the announcement from
Schools Secretary Ed Balls that sex education is to be
made compulsory for all pupils. Mr Balls announced on
Thursday that it is now compulsory for all 15-year-olds
to take part in at least one year of sex and
relationships lessons.

being built up, says the Bishop of Lichfield. In a

ASSEMBLIES OF GOD GETS GOVERNMENT PERMIT IN VIETNAM
In October 2009, the Assemblies of God of Vietnam
received a permit from the Vietnam government to
operate, which is the first step in becoming an
officially recognized church. Although the AG was
established in Vietnam in 1989, Vietnam’s Religion Law
requires an organization to be a stable organization for
20 years before the process of official recognition can
begin. Now that this step has been passed, the church
has an official operating license.

EVANGELICAL MARCH IN BRAZIL DRAWS 15 LAKH PEOPLE
Sao Paulo: More than 15 Lakh evangelical
Christians joined Brazil’s annual “March for Jesus” on
November 2, an event sponsored by a church whose leaders
recently returned after being imprisoned in the U.S. for
money smuggling. Now in its 17th year, the march unites
faithful from hundreds of evangelical churches and
attracts dozens of Christian bands, preachers and local
celebrities. It is organized by the powerful Reborn in
Christ Church, whose leaders said they expected 50 Lakh
people to gather around a central Sao Paulo plaza where
the main stage was located.
