On 6th May 2010 in Kanpur City of U.P., there was a worship service organized in Beersheba Church of God in Kalyanpur region to celebrate the birthday of Naveen, a member of the church. Naveen had invited his friends James, Samson, Joseph, Ujwal, Ezra and a professor of chemistry from IIT Kanpur.

When the worship started at six in the evening, some R.S.S. and Bajrangdal members (about 50 people) carried an attack on the church members. After abusing the believers, they beat them including the pastor and his wife then called the police from Kalyanpur police station. The accusation was of forced conversion against the church pastor Dayaloo Sonam. Shortly after, the police arrived and arrested Pastor Sonam, the professor and some church members.
