WAYNE GRUDEM TACKLES HOW, WHEN AND WHY CHRISTIANS SHOULD ENGAGE IN POLITICS

May 7, 2010 Bestselling Christian author Wayne Grudem, with support from worship leader Stuart Townend, is coming to Peterborough on 29 June to address the question of whether 'political' involvement distracts from the gospel.

Grudem will also be touring the country with further events in London, Liverpool, Sheffield, Cambridge and Chessington.

He is best known for writing 'Systematic Theology' and for his contribution to the 'English Standard Version (ESV)' Bible.

At a time when Christian beliefs are increasingly marginalised, he wants people to think biblically about why, when and how Christians should speak out on 'political' issues.

He will tackle questions like: what are the limits on religion in politics? To what extent can Christians agree on responses to today's issues? What practical action can Christians take?

Grudem said: “I invite people to join me at these events where we will look together at how the Bible applies to government and politics.

"Each event will help people think through different views on political involvement, and consider applications of the command to love our neighbours as ourselves.”

Grudem's tour is being organised by The Christian Institute. Its Director, Colin Hart, says: “The tour is part of our commitment to help time-pressured Christians think biblically about contemporary ethical issues.”

The Christian Institute focuses on religious liberty, marriage, family, and the sanctity of life. Its manifesto-crunching Election Briefing provided an in-depth exploration of the policies of the main political parties on key moral issues, in order to help voters reach an informed decision on how to cast their vote.

Stuart Townend will be leading worship during the tour event at Peterborough's KingsGate Church on 29 June. Stuart is the writer of well-loved songs such as 'In Christ Alone' and 'How Deep The Father's Love For Us'.

Grudem said: “The tour brings together live elements that help create memorable communication. People like personal presentation of views along with interaction and I'm looking forward to trying to answer the questions that many people have, and to hearing their thoughts on these matters as well.”
