AVAILABILITY
IS GREATER THAN CAPABILITY
Pastor M.K.Babu |
 |
|
A little boy was waiting for his mother to come out of
the grocery store. As he waited, he was approached by a
man who asked, "Son, Can You tell me where the Post
Office is?"
|
| |
The little boy replied,
"Sure! Just go straight down this street a couple of
blocks and turn to your right."
The man thanked the boy kindly and said, "I'm the new
pastor in town. I'd like for you to come to church on
Sunday. I'll show you how to get to Heaven."
The little boy replied with a chuckle. "Awww, come on...
You don't even know the way to the Post Office."
The world today is in search for capable people in order
to execute projects and jobs. Thus competition prevails
in every field. Incapable people are not confident
enough even to face an interview for a job. Incapability
produces fear, inferiority and self-pity leads to
apathy.
God deals with men in the opposite way. He doesn’t look
for capable people; rather His search is for available
people for God can create anything out of nothing. Those
who think themselves capable become arrogant and
self-centered, resisting God as He attempts to work in
and through their lives. “To the arrogant I say, 'Boast
no more,' and to the wicked, 'Do not lift up your horns”
Ps 75:4.
Abraham and Sarah were incapable to have a child when
they were called to become a nation for God. Their
incapability didn’t stop them from obeying God when they
were asked to leave Abraham's father’s house and to walk
with God. Both of them were available for God to work in
and through them in whatever way He wanted. God honored
them and made them nation and Abraham became the
Patriarch.
When God called Moses to lead more than six hundred
thousand men from Egypt to Canaan he was not capable for
that. He had many excuses for not accepting his
commission. God just wanted an answer from him --
whether he was available or not for His Presence can go
with Moses. His availability to obey God made him the
greatest leader of history who led a large multitude
without any provision and preparation.
Samuel was just a child when he was called to receive
the Word of God for Israel. He was not even mature
enough to distinguish between the voice of God and of
Eli the priest. Samuel’s obedience to be available for
God made him the greatest prophet of Israel. When David
was called to face Goliath, the giant warrior, he had
neither previous training nor experience to fight with a
warrior and was not mature enough to do the same. God
honored his commitment to be used for His purpose and
made him the king over Israel. Moreover He subdued
David’s enemies under his feet.
Gideon was not a warrior when he was visited by the
Angel of the Lord. He was well aware of his incapability
to redeem Israel from the hands of Midian. His obedience
to make himself available to be instrument in the hands
of God was honored and God gave him victory.
Jeremiah was just a boy when he was called to speak the
Word of God to a perverted generation of Israel. He knew
his incapability and expressed his lack of confidence.
God reminded him about his calling, anointing and
ordination to do this ministry. His availability made
Jeremiah one of the greatest prophets of Israel.
Jesus Christ was available all the time to fulfill the
will of His Father. He could have just slipped away from
the crucifixion for He was just 33 plus years old. A
demand could have been put forward to His father to wait
for a few more years. He could have decided to die on
the cross at an old age--as many of our people who think
of entering the ministry when they are worn out. The
obedience of Jesus to be available in his youth to die
on a cross was honored by His Father. He was exalted
over everything in heaven and on earth. His Name became
higher than any other name. Every knee will bow down and
every tongue will confess one day that Jesus Christ is
Lord.
Paul was a Pharisee when he was elected to preach the
Gospel. God made him an apostle out of a Pharisee; our
brains cannot comprehend this. He became a preacher of
the Gospel, became a teacher of a new teaching, Apostle
of Jesus Christ. His availability to become anything for
God made him great among the apostles.
All of the above men have one thing in common. They all
knew they are incapable to accomplish the task which
they were called for. Their trust in God and their
obedience made them available for God anywhere, anytime
for anything. God is still looking for people who are
available so that He can work in and through them.
Let us be available for God. Availability is greater
than capability. |
