Dear
child, you must have heard the story of the birth of
Jesus many times. It happened in Bethlehem, a simple
town in Israel. But the shepherds heard the angels sing
in the sky . The angels told them that a Saviour had been
born in Bethlehem for all people. The shepherds were
amazed, and they went and saw baby Jesus laid in a mnger.
God intervened in nature miraculously and communicated
the birth of Jesus to the world. He placed a star in the
sky through which the then astronomers got the message
of the birth of a King. The Bible tells the story of the
Wise Men's journey to meet baby Jesus.
In a country far away from where Jesus was born, there
lived some Wise Men who studied the stars. One night
they saw a bright new star shining in the sky. It was
the brightest star they had ever seen. “This star shows
that God's Son has come to earth,” they said. “Let us go
and see Him. He is our King and Saviour.”
So they sent for their camels and got ready to go. “We
must take Him some gifts to show that we love Him,” said
the Wise Men. “Let us take Him gifts lovely enough for a
King.” They also decided to take food, water, clothes
and other things for the long journey.
So into their bags they put gold and sweet-smelling
perfume. Then they started on a long trip to see the
newborn King. They took along with them food supplies to
last a long time. The Wise Men had many servants and
helpers to accompany them. Perhaps they hired guards
also to protect them in the long journey.
On and on they went until they came to a big city. It
was called Jerusalem. There they asked: ”Where is the
Baby who is born to be a King? We have seen His star and
have come to worship Him.” The Wise Men were lead by the
star to Jerusalem. In their long journey they were
following the star.
None of the people had heard of the Baby Jesus, but
someone went and told the king who lived in a palace.
This king's name was Herod. Herod was a wicked king. In
those time kings used to be very cruel. They would even
kill their brothers for the throne.
When Herod heard that another king was born he was
sacred. But he sent for the strangers and asked them
about the new born king. The Wise Men told him about the
star which they saw in the sky. They told King Herod
that the star indicated the birth of a King. Then the
king called some of his ministers who read the Jewish
Scriptures. He asked them, “Where is the Saviour to be
born?” They told him, “The Scriptures say the Saviour
will be born in the city of Bethlehem.” The king told
them to search for the child and tell his also. He told
them that he wanted to respect the new born king. But
actually he was planning to kill the new king.
So the Wise Men climbed up on their camels and started
off for Bethlehem. It was nighttime as they rode away.
All at once they saw the bright star shining again in
the sky. How glad they were, for they knew God had sent
the star to lead them to the Saviour.
The star went ahead of them. At last it stood still
above the house where the Baby Jesus was. When the Wise
Men went in, they found Mary and Joseph and the Baby
Jesus in the house.
The Wise Men bowed down on their knees and thanked Jesus
for coming to help them. They knew He was their King and
Saviour. Then they opened their bags and gave Him the
gifts which they had brought. The next day they were
going back to the palace to tell King Herod about baby
Jesus. But on the way an angel of God appeared to them
and told them not to go to King Herod. So they returned
to their home another way. They were very happy to meet
the Saviour.
Dear child, like the Wise Men, you can also come to the
Saviour, Jesus Christ and give Him your valuable gift.
Our most valuable gift is our life which God has given
us. Let us give our lives to Jesus as a precious gift.
Let us pray: “Dear Lord, I am offering my precious gift,
that is my life to You. Be my Saviour and Lord. Amen.”
May the Lord bless you!
