A DAILY
SPIRITUAL PREPARATION

Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your
stand against the devil's schemes. Eph 6:11

Every single human being
in this world, irrespective of religion, language or
faith, is destined to fight in a spiritual battle. The
realization of this battle arises when we figure out the
truth that there are enemies to fight against, there is
a King we have to fight for and there is a banner under
which we have to fight. The world, our sinful nature,
and the devil are the common enemies to all people. The
Creator God has blessed His best of His creation, the
man, with the characteristic of will power and
rationality while He created him. It is his/her choice
to recognize the authority of God in the life and
surrender to His perfect will.
A child of God has the privilege to win this spiritual
battle provided he/she adheres to God’s word and puts on
the full armor of God that He provides. God has opened
the way through His Son Jesus Christ so that everyone in
this world can become His children. This has nothing to
do with one’s religious background or its customs or
practices. The Word of God says: “But as many as
received Him, to them He gave the right to become
children of God, even to those who believe in His name
(John 1:12). Moreover, Jesus Christ conquered the world,
flesh and Satan through His sacrificial death on the
cross further He imparts the power on the children of
God who believes in His name.
The purpose of the death of Jesus Christ on the cross
was this: He was bringing us to reconciliation with God
and to fellowship with Him. The purpose will be served
if we have constant fellowship with Him every day. The
time we set apart for prayer in our life is the time we
have fellowship with Him. More time of fellowship
improves the strength of our relationship with Him and
reception of His power to fight the spiritual battle.
Someone said: “Prayer is the key to open our day and
lock in the night”. Beginning our day in fellowship with
God and putting on the armor of God will lead us to
victory throughout the day against the devil and his
schemes, craving of our flesh and deception of this
world. Prayer time is the more powerful time in our
lives. It is like we entering into the battle field with
all preparations. Spending time alone with God in prayer
fetches the power and strength to have self control and
to produce the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22). It is
like doing morning exercise to make the body active and
to burn extra calories that accumulate to become fat. An
unexercised mind and body are not prepared to face all
challenges-seen and unforeseen. Regular prayer time
strengthens us and makes us powerful to face challenges
of evil thoughts and forces of darkness.
A soldier with a sound mind and body will dynamically
put the armor on. He does not lack enthusiasm; rather
he’s ready to face the battle and win it for his king.
The spiritual battle too is fought for the King Jesus
who will establish His Kingdom on this earth. And the
banner over us is love.
Prayer is not just loading up our requests on God. It is
a heart to heart communion with God. The Almighty God in
whom we believe is capable to listen, speak, see and
work. Pondering on the Word of God is needed to listen
to God and to allow Him to talk to our hearts. Without
that, our prayer is incomplete. We know that lack of
sustenance will weaken our bodies and further lead to
death. Malnutrition too is harmful to the body. Lack of
spiritual food will affects our spiritual being and will
lead to spiritual imbalances and death.
Watching our thoughts, words and works carefully is the
next step in our preparation before putting on the
armor. What am I going to do throughout the day? I must
be aware of that. Watch! The devil is looking for
foothold in us.
Our thoughts and words should conform to the Word of God
that eventually transforms our lives and yields us to do
God’s will.
“Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly
calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and
high priest whom we confess.” Heb 3:1
“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then
you will be able to test and approve what God's will
is—his good, pleasing and perfect will”. Rom 12:2
Our words are more powerful than swords that can pierce
into the body. If the sword pierces through body, words
can pierce the heart .The Word says: Therefore this is
what the LORD says: …… if you utter worthy, not
worthless, words, you will be my spokesman. Jer. 15:19.
Let us watch our acts! Let not the devil corrupt it. Is
it self centered or Christ centered? What is the result
that we want to see through our acts? Is it bringing
glory to God or lifting up ourselves over everything?
Do things in love, humility, without complaining and
arguing, without anxiety, without arrogance and selfish
ambition. Let us do everything for God.
Let there be a preparation on a daily basis as we put on
the spiritual armor of Christian virtues.
