 GOD PROTECTS JESUS
- Beena Didi

Dear child, God protects us always. But only certain times we recognize His great care. Everyday God watches over us. In the day time and in the night He protects us under His mighty wings. He guides us and makes us walk in the proper and safe way for us. Here is how God protected His Son, Jesus from a cunning king who wanted to kill baby Jesus.

The night was cold and dark in the little town of Bethlehem. But inside Jesus' house it was warm and quiet. Mary and Joseph and Baby Jesus were sleeping. And while they slept, our heavenly Father was watching over them. He neither sleeps nor slumbers.

That night the heavenly Father sent an angel to talk to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” The angel said to Joseph: “take Jesus and His mother far away from Bethlehem, and don't come back until I tell you. There is a bad king who wants to hurt Jesus.” Joseph was afraid, and suddenly he woke up.

When Joseph awoke, he did just what the angel had told him to do. He woke Mary, and that very night they got ready to leave. Mary wrapped the Baby in warm blankets and held Him close to herself. Joseph got their donkey ready and lifted Mary up on it. It was a very difficult decision for them. But for the safety of the child they had to do it.

Then out into the dark and cold night they went. It would be a long trip for such a little baby. But Mary and Joseph weren't afraid. They knew that God would take care of them on the way. They also remembered the way God had been protecting the child from its birth on a manger.

Far away to a land called Egypt they went. There they all were safe from the bad king. When the king's soldiers came to Bethlehem, they could not hurt the Baby Jesus. They could not find Him. The disappointed soldiers returned to their king.

Jesus and his family lived in Egypt. Jesus grew in the discipline of his parents. When Jesus was a little older, God sent an angel to Joseph again. “Come back home,” said the angel, “the bad king is dead.” It was good news for them. They were really longing to return to their home town.

Then Joseph and Mary took Jesus to their home in Nazareth. Here, too, God took care of them, just as He had done in Bethlehem and in Egypt. Baby Jesus grew and grew the way God wanted Him to grow. Pretty soon He was big enough to go to the then school to learn about the Jewish Law and the Scriptures.

Dear child, this is the way God protects us from all troubles. But sometimes God allows us to go through certain troubles so that we learn to face life. But God will be always with us, helping us in every difficulty. Let us thank God for His protection. Prayer: “Dear Jesus, thank You for Your great protection. Help me to learn from the troubles that I face. Amen!” May the Lord bless you!
