PASTORS ARRESTED |
| |
Chattisgarh:
Ironically, a “Freedom of Religion” Act in the Indian
state of Chattisgarh has led to the arrest of eleven
pastors of the Believers' Church in Fatakpur, Sarguja.
According to a correspondent of the Evangelical
Fellowship of India (EFI) Rev. Akhilesh Edgar Hindu
activists allegedly led by local Bharatiya Janata Party
MLA Renuka Singh disrupted Christian Revival meeting
organised by a local church.
The meeting was conducted with prior permission of the
police and the civil administration. Pastors from
various districts of Chattisgarh were present at the
event. Hindu activists arrived at the meeting at around
7:30 p.m. They accused the pastors of “forceful
conversion,” beat them up, tore the Bibles, banners and
damaged the public address system.
After several calls were made by some Christian leaders,
the police reached the spot at about 11:00 p.m. and took
the 11 pastors to the police station for security
measure. However, a case was registered against them.
The pastors were released on bail on February 18.
