ELECTIONS 2009: A WATERSHED IN INDIAN POLITICS?
Elections provide a kaleidoscopic view of the India and

variety is fascinating, puzzling, frightening,

CBCI LAUDS CHRISTIAN MINISTERS IN GOVT
NEW DELHI: India's Catholic Christians are
happy over increased representation of the community in
the new government, with four of them being inducted
into the union council of ministers, says a report from
IndoAsian News Service. A.K. Antony is defence minister
while K.V. Thomas, Agatha Sangma and Vincent Pala are
ministers of state. The previous United Progressive
Alliance (UPA) government had three Christian ministers.

ARNOLD JAMES ELECTED DIRECTOR OF YMCA
New Delhi: Mr. Arnold James, Member of
Delhi Minority Commission, was elected Director of New
Delhi YMCA with a thumping majority. Mr James holds
several offices in various organisations. He has been
involved in social activities since 1960. His effort in
promoting harmony and unity among religious and
denominational groups is phenomenal.

DELHI MINORITY COMMISSION FELICITATES DR. PRAMANIK
The Delhi Minority Commission today felicitated DR. B.K.
Pramanik, General Secretary of the Bible Society of
India for his yeoman to the Christian Community for the
last 25 years.
Welcoming the Hon'ble Members and the gathering, Mr.
Richard Khan, Auxiliary Secretary of North West India
Auxiliary mentioned the great task of the Bible Society
of India is doing for the last 200 years in translating,
publishing and distribution of the Holy Scripture.

AICC SALUTES VOTERS
Delhi, April 28: SNEW DELHI: The All India
Christian Council has saluted the people of the country
for the decisive manner in which they have rejected
“divisive, communal and sectarian political forces” in
the general elections. In a statement, the Council said
their vote for secularism, stability and development,
imposes on the party they have trusted with their
mandate, the Indian National Congress, and the
architects of its victory, party president Sonia Gandhi,
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and party general
secretary Rahul Gandhi, the important responsibility of
restoring national political discourse and governance to
its pristine values inscribed in the Constitution and
articulated by the country's founding fathers.

CHRISTIANS FLEE PAKISTAN’S SWAT VALLEY AMID ASSAULT ON
TALIBAN
New Delhi: Pakistani Christians in Swat
Valley are caught between the Taliban and Pakistan’s
military as it assaults the stronghold where sharia
(Islamic) law. Nearly 15,000 troops have been deployed
in the picturesque Swat Valley in Pakistan’s North West
Frontier Province and across the border in Afghanistan.
Troops came after months of peace negotiations collapsed
between the Taliban insurgents who have imposed sharia
in the valley and the central government last month.
Hundreds of thousands of Pakistanis have fled the war
ravaged area for fear of a full military assault.
