Imphal, May 26, 2009: All India Christian
Council and North East Support Centre & Helpline have
condemned the gruesome Killing of Former Dean of Manipur
University on Monday, 25 May 2009, in the University
campus. Md. Islamuddin was killed by three unidentified
persons on Monday around 12.30 noon.
The social fabrics of societies in Manipur and normal
life of the state which used to be till late 1980s has
been destroyed by a gun culture. The ongoing killing, if
not stopped, the fate of Manipur is very worrisome. It
has resulted in a steep rise in the number of widows and
orphans in the state. "Unless God intervene, hope for
any betterment in Manipur is fading away," the Council
stated in a press release.
As long as the killing continues, there is no chance of
any prosperity of the state. Life is God given and
precious, no individual or group has right to take it
away.
Christian Council and NE Helpline appealed to all
sections of society to respect the dignity of life and
to refrain from laying hand on human life. Christian
Council and NE Helpline expressed
great concern about present situation in Manipur.
Special prayer campaign is being organised for peace in
Manipur.
