New Delhi: Praise the Almighty wishes to
congratulate twenty two Members of Parliament who are
Christians. Out of these, 13 are in the Lower House and
9 are in the Upper House.
Christian communities in India are glad to find a fair
representation in the Indian Parliament.
Although Christian contribution to India's nation
building far exceeded those of other minority groups,
and at times, even those of the majority groups,
Christians did not receive due recognition for their
efforts. Many at times, their motive for doing
charitable works was questioned.
Persecutions in Khandamal and Mangalore were noticed by
the national media. However, there are thousands of
instances of human rights violations against Christians
and their pastors every year in the name of "forced
conversions." Anti-conversion laws in many Indian states
are used as an excuse to accuse any Christian of
"forced" conversions.
Are Indians so weak that they can be "forced" to accept
another religion, one wonders! What is the use of
"freedom to propagate one's religion" if Indians cannot
freely change their religion?
At such a time as this, Christian communities hope that
their fellow men and women in Parliament will speak up
for their rightful causes.
