LAW BY CHOICE FOR FREEDOM - Gerry Mahn

Greetings to the Great Nation of India,

Several years ago I read an article in a magazine telling of a Dr. who studied 55,000 young people in the United States, ages 16 years old and younger who had been in trouble with the law. The doctor asked each one what they knew about the Ten Commandments. Out of 55,000 only 9,000 had even heard of them. He then went to a public high school and found the percentages the same only about 16% of the young people could write anything at all about the Ten Commandments. This in a country where the vast majority believe in the Bible.

After reading this article my wife and I realized we didn’t have anything with the Ten Commandments on it to hang on the wall, so I went to buy a copy for our home. After going to several stores and finding nothing with the Ten Commandments on it, to hang on the wall, we decided to print them.

It seemed amazing to me, the only thing God wrote with His own finger on tables of stone was not readily available for all to see. We know they are in the Bible but most people don’t know where to look to find them, and of course many people don’t have a Bible.

The word ‘Law’ refers to the Ten Commandments, ‘By Choice’ means we all have a choice whether or not we want to consider keeping the Law of God or not, ’For Freedom’ carries with it the understanding of freedom from sin and the consequences of committing sin, which is sorrow and a life of heartache if we don’t follow God’s Law of liberty.

We have found that people all over the world recognize the value of the Ten Commandments. They are talked about in most Holy books of the world. The Ten Commandments can be written on one page, they are understood by everyone including small children, they cover every aspect of our moral lives, they are a perfect document. In the Bible they are referred to as the Word of God. Of all the things God could have written with His own finger this is it, short and to the point. The first four cover our duty to God, the last six cover our duty to our fellow man. In the Bible we are told of two great laws that all the others hang on: love to God and love to man.. The first four tell us how to express our love to God and the last six tell us how to love our neighbors, or fellow man.

When we visit with political leaders we explain to them they should never try and pass laws enforcing the first four commandments because these are between each person and God. It is the last six our civil laws are based on, our duty to each other; not to kill, steal, lie, to take care of the old and weak among us, to protect the family unit, and of course the tenth one is about coveting which is internal, our minds and hearts..

In the Bible David said he beheld wondrous things out of the law of God, he thought on it day and night. I have found the same thing, it truly is the foundation of all Truth. As

a Christian I believe the Ten Commandments became flesh and dwelt among us in the person of Jesus Christ. In the first chapter of the book of John it says the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus is the personification of the Ten Commandments and the Ten Commandments are the codification of Jesus.

One of the keys to understanding the Ten Commandments is found in the first sentence when it says: “I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” It is by the power of God we find deliverance from bondage, no matter what sin, or bondage, we find

ourselves in God is able and willing to deliver us if we want liberty, He can do it just like He brought Israel out of the slavery of Egypt. He did it by having them take a Lamb into there home for four days and then killing it and putting the blood over the door and eating the rest of the Lamb. With the blood of the lamb covering them and the Lamb on the inside for strength, they walked to freedom. All the power of there enemies could not stop them. Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world, He was slain for us that we might live. He is that Word. When people say the Ten Commandments were done away with they are saying Jesus didn’t raise from the dead since He is the Word of God. Jesus is alive and that makes the Ten Commandments alive.

All people of the world have a right to have what God wrote with His own finger, that is our goal, we, by God’s Grace, are in the process of giving everyone in the world a copy of the Ten Commandments. It will take a lot of money to accomplish this. When we started we had no money but God has enabled us to distribute million of copies. People that are impressed to help are part of this work. It is not owned by any group, the Word of God is for all people. We have seen people changed just by reading the Ten Commandments. Eccl 8:4 tells us: “Where the word of a king is, there is power…”

What a simple way to change the world and bring the kingdom of God to the hearts of the people. It is by God’s power it is accomplished. He will write it on our hearts. We just have to make it known so the people can make a choice to follow God or not. The power is in God’s hands to make the change in the lives of the people. God bless you and all people of good will in the great nation of India. Philipians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”
