We have
presented our case effectively, but not forcefully on
the Dalit Christian issue. Now, it would seem the UPA
Government has no reason, not to grant reservations to
SC/ST Christians & hence, the Church needs to act fast.
The Church means - the Clergy & Laity. Who will bell the
cat ? There are enough of those who claim to represent
this issue and so The CSF will not dwell on it. However,
we are keen on representing with the new union
government the issue of Reservation to Christians for
employment & education. Dr. J Peter Rodriques, eminent
ENT surgeon & on The CSF Board, has been active on our
behalf to take it forward. Hence, here is a paragraph on
the Government of India's National Statistical Survey
Organisation (NSSO) Report, which is revealing and needs
to be taken up urgently.
"Christians should be aware, that unemployment among
Christians, has risen to be higher, than all other
communities in India. Whilst, Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs,
Buddhists, are all granted government benefits, it is
paradoxical that Christians are being refused the same.
The NSSO Report for most the time that the Congress has
been at the helm, reveals that the unemployment rate
among Christians is higher than that of Hindus and
Muslims. The report with data on the status of
employment of people belonging to the major religious
groups states that in rural areas, the unemployment rate
was 4.4% among Christians, 2.3% among Muslims and 1.5%
among Hindus. In Urban areas, the unemployment rate of
Christians was 8.6% higher than other religious groups,
which was 4.4% for Hindus and 4.1% for Muslims. Also,
unemployment was highest 14% among Urban Christian
women. The Report was an extensive study, covering 1,
24,680 sample
households, 79,306 of them in 7,999 villages and the
rest in 4,602, urban areas. Although the report is two
years old, no action has been taken."
The CSF demands Reservation for Christians, just as the
Muslims, as per the Sachar Committee Report, are doing
so. The Muslims will succeed because of their active
clergy & laity, but Christians will not, because NONE in
the community has worked to get us all together on this
issue. We are doing so. The CSF will try its best to
raise a voice, but will not succeed, unless we all come
together - begining with the Church. Are you listening
Church?
