We live in the most significant period of the history of
this world. This is the time the Kingdom of God is
advancing with all its power and might. The above verse
says the foundation of the Kingdom is apostles and
prophets with Jesus Christ as the cornerstone. Prophecy
has a significant role to play in order to the build the
Kingdom of God.
Every preaching should have prophetic words from God.
The mystery of Christ and God’s plan for people is
revealed to His servants through the Holy Spirit.
Preachers and teachers must look unto God and spend time
with Him in order to receive the prophetic word for a
particular person or group of people. Teaching and
preaching should not be merely preparations from the
Bible and the tools available. When God sends His
salvation and healing to the people it is withheld from
them because we don’t proclaim it in the power of God.
Bible teaching and preaching have a power to transform
the lives of the listeners. When we proclaim the Word
prophetically to the crowd it hits the person for whom
God sent it.
Apostle Paul says: "In reading this, then, you will be
able to understand my insight into the mystery of
Christ, which was not made known to people in other
generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to
God's holy apostles and prophets." Eph 3:4-5
We get empowered with such unction from the Holy Spirit
to reveal His plans for the people as we walk in
obedience to Him. A man led by the Spirit is a powerful
man to perform miracles and make God work for him
according to the words he uttered.
We see one of these kind incidents in the book of 2
Kings with Elisha. The king of Aram laid siege to
Samaria and there came a great famine. The king of
Israel put the blame on Elisha, God’s prophet, and
wanted to kill him. The king was not ready to long for
God anymore. But there was a prophetic word for the
messenger sent by the king to Elisha. He said: "Hear the
word of the LORD. This is what the LORD says: About this
time tomorrow, a 'seah' of the finest flour will sell
for a shekel and two 'seahs' of barley for a shekel at
the gate of Samaria." Though these words were uttered by
the prophet of God the royal officer was doubtful about
it. I believe God was about the send deliverance to His
people from the hands of the king of Aram. A prophetic
word from His appointed prophet was enough to break open
the deliverance on Israel.
God planned to deliver Israel from the hands of the king
of Aram but I have doubt whether he planned to trample
the royal officer under the feet of the people. The Holy
Spirit revealed the plan of God, give victory to Israel
and provide them food, through Elisha. He was obedient
to prophecy those words as he received it from the Holy
Spirit. The prophetic word to the royal officer about
his death was pronounced by Elisha but the Holy Spirit
made it a prophetic utterance that came to pass.
We are now heralds of the salvation plan of God through
Jesus Christ to the nation. God wants us to be prophets
who proclaim His plan for the people. Circumstances may
constrain us to proclaim something from our hearts
according to the Word of God. The Holy Spirit is
faithful to make it pass. Therefore, let us be prophets
rather than mere speakers.
