New Delhi: The Delhi Minorities Commission (DMC)
of the Government of NCT of Delhi conducted a seminar on
scholarship schemes for students of minority communities
at YMCA here on July 11, 2009. Around 200 delegates from
various minority communities and related organisations
attended the seminar.
Mr. H.S. Hanspal, Hon'ble Member of National Minorities
Commission (NMC) was the chief guest on the occasion.
Mr. Arnold James, Member, DMC, Mr. Manoj Chauhan,
Secretary, DMC and Mr. Pushpinder Singh, Member, DMC
were present and initiated the meeting. Mr. V.K. Bahal,
Dy. Secretary, Department of SC/ST/ Minorities, Govt. of
NCT of Delhi also spoke on the occasion, and cleared
doubts of the delegates.
The scholarship schemes are mainly for students from 6th
to 12th for below poverty line (BPL) families. They need
to produce a certificate in this regard from area SDM.
Many delegates who spoke expressed dissatisfaction on
the criteria for scholarship. The Hon'ble Member of NMC
assured to take up the matter with the Government.

Representative from Khadi & Village Industries
Commission (KVIC), Govt. of India also spoke on the
seminar, and highlighted various schemes of loans,
grants, etc. for minorities to set up industries/
business. Entrepreneurs can also set up Khadi shops with
the aid of KVIC. Details of various schemes are
