Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government has on
Wednesday declared that there would be a new law which
will make death penalty mandatory for people who
manufacture spurious liquor.
The government has said that the punishment for the
crime would now range from a minimum of seven years to
execution.
Death for those making spurious liquor: Gujarat govt The
decision of the government is in the wake of the recent
deaths in Ahmedabad earlier this month in the hooch
tragedy case.
Key accused in the case, Vinod Chauhan has reportedly
fled the state. According to police, Chauhan was
involved in brewing the spurious liquor in Vantvadi
village of Mahemdabad taluk in Kheda district that was
supplied to different parts of Ahmedabad.
Harishankar Kahar and Dadu Charra, who bought over 1,000
litres of the spurious liquor from Chauhan and supplied
it to Majoor Gam and Odhav, have been arrested along
with six other bootleggers who aided them in
distributing the hooch.
Eight people arrested in connection with the hooch
tragedy include three women.
Over 100 people had died early this month after drinking
illegally brewed liquor in the capital city of Gujarat.
