Gwalior (MP), Dec 20
(PTI): A group of people stormed into an
exhibition here put up by local Christians and allegedly
tore off photographs, damaged an idol and tried to set
aflame religious text, police said. Police have booked
four persons in connection with the incident, one of
whom -- Santosh Godyale -- is a local office bearer of
BJP''s Scheduled Caste Cell, the police said.
Besides Godyale, police have booked Pramod, Raju, Manoj
Khatik and others under various sections of IPC, they
said. A case has been registered against the accused on
a complaint filed by the organisers of the exhibition
being held at Maharajbada here.
Christians have been holding this type of exhibition
here since last 10 years and this one was inaugurated
three days back and was scheduled to conclude on
Christmas, police said. "This incident before Christmas
was unfortunate," Madhya Pradesh Catholic Church Public
Relation Officer Father Anand Muttungal told PTI over
phone.
Fr. Muttungal demanded that the police should strictly
deal with such anti-social elements. "This was not the
first attack on Christians or their places in Madhya
Pradesh," he said adding that the state government
should ensure safety to the community members.
