Thiruvalla, 7 Jan
2010: The Believers Church consecrated six new
bishops at the St Thomas Cathedral. The new bishops were
selected by the Synod Executive Coucil. They are Rev. B
K Lukose (Kerala), Rev. C K Noucham (Myanmar), Rev. B.
Sunderraj (Tamil Nadu), Rev. Anil Kumar Deb Varma (Tripura),
Rev. Gopal Chhatri (Nepal), Rev. Emmanuel Juribu (Sikkim).
The Metropolitan bishop of Believers Church, Most Rev. K
P Yohannan officiated at the special consecration
service. Pastors and church members from various
dioceses gathered at the headquarters for this event.
At 7:30 am, the bishop candidates were taken in a
procession from the Believers Church Seminary campus to
the St. Thomas Cathedral. Later, during the
consecration, the Metropolitan bishop presented to each
candidate a special ring that bore the emblem of the
Believers Church. The Metropolitan then washed the feet
of the newly appointed bishops following the example of
Christ who displayed servant-leadership by washing the
feet of his twelve disciples. The Church then presented
each bishop with a copy of the Holy Bible.
After the service, a special meeting was held to
felicitate the newly appointed bishops. Honourable
Minister for Public Works, Mr. P J Joseph, inaugurated
this meeting that was chaired by the Metropolitan
bishop.
The Believers Church has churches in 13 Asian countries
and their churches are organised under 25 dioceses. The
church boasts of two million members. Their pastors and
workers are trained in 54 minor seminaries and in the
main seminary in Tiruvalla.
