A STAMP OF RECOGNITION FOR MOTHER TERESA

Washington: The image of Nobel Peace Prize winner Mother Teresa will be featured on a postal stamp this year.

The U.S. Postal Service said the beloved humanitarian is one of several people to be featured as part of its 2010 stamp program.

In 1948. Mother Teresa, a Roman Catholic nun, left her teaching post at her convent in Calcutta to devote herself to the city's indigent people. She was honored with the Noble Peace Prize in 1979. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1985 by President Ronald Reagan. Mother Teresa was awarded honorary U.S. citizenship in 1996 by President Bill Clinton and Congress.

Postal officials said the stamp is tentatively set for release on Aug. 26.
