Washington:
The image of Nobel Peace Prize winner Mother Teresa will
be featured on a postal stamp this year.
The U.S. Postal Service said the beloved humanitarian is
one of several people to be featured as part of its 2010
stamp program.
In 1948. Mother Teresa, a Roman Catholic nun, left her
teaching post at her convent in Calcutta to devote
herself to the city's indigent people. She was honored
with the Noble Peace Prize in 1979. She was awarded the
Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1985 by President
Ronald Reagan. Mother Teresa was awarded honorary U.S.
citizenship in 1996 by President Bill Clinton and
Congress.
Postal officials said the stamp is tentatively set for
release on Aug. 26.
