New Delhi: The Delhi Minority Commission has
revealed that the government is to provide land for the
Christi an
community in the state free of cost for maintaining a
cemetery.
The
Delhi Minority Commission (DMC) had adopted an unanimous
resolution to this effect on January 5, 2009. The DMC
has informed the concerned Block Development Officer to
take suitable action as per the Commission’s decision.
This
was revealed by DMC Member Arnold James at the first
meeting of the Christian Advisory Committee (CAC),on 14
January 2009, set up by the DMC. The Christian Advisory
Committee is to ensure safe-guard/interest of Christian
community and to bring its people in the mainstream of
building the nation. It is constituted with ten members,
Sister Nirmalini, Advocate Jenice Francis, Mark S Clive,
Rev. Dr. N.C. George, Ms. Sushma Ramaswami, Dr. Sudhir
Joseph, Very Rev. M.S. Skariah Ramban, Alok Michyari,
Niranjan Lal and Rev. Jayan Thomas.
The
availability of adequate land for cemetery was a long
standing demand of the Christian Community in Delhi.
Arnold James has informed that there are two Cemetery
Committees in Delhi, namely, the Delhi Cemetery
Committee and the Indian Cemetery Committee. However,
following the request of Arch Bishop Vincent Concessao,
the CAC has acknowledged the need for an apex body to
overlook these matters quite like the Wakf Board for
Muslims.
The
Member also stressed the need for organising a function
frequently where the parents of Christian boys and girls
could find suitable matches for marriages.
He
expressed the need a Directory contains all the details
of Christian NGOs, Organisations, Institutions,
Churches, Professionals and Businessmen. He request the
New Delhi YMCA Associate General Secretary Mark S Clive
to take this responsibility and seek help of PRAISE THE
ALMIGHTY in order to get the work done.
