 A TRUE FRIEND

- Beena didi

Dear child, you may be having a lot of friends. Some in your class are your good friends. Friends can lead us in good paths or in bad paths. They can support us in times of difficult situations. But some friends disappoint us, and leave us alone when we need them the most. Are you helping your friends in times of their needs? You should never disappoint your friends. We have to be faithful. Read the story to learn how God wants you to deal with certain situations.

Prakash and Manoj were good friends. They studied in the same class. Both helped each other in studies. They used to take lunch in the school together. Their friendship was known to everyone in the class. The teachers also knew about it. They were happy that such friendship was helping them to learn better. The families of Prakash and Manoj also liked their friendship. They lived in the same town. During holidays also the two friends used to meet to play and to learn.

They attended different churches. But Prakash and Manoj used to attend special meetings together. Their families also had good fellowship together. So, they had an ideal friendship spiritually and emotionally.

One day Prakash noticed a difference in Manoj. He was trying to avoid Prakash, and was not talking much. Prakash got sad. He asked Manoj what was the matter. But he said that it was nothing, only that he was not feeling well. This change continued for some days. Prakash became very sad, and he told his parents about the change in Manoj. His parents prayed with him for Manoj. They told him to keep an eye on Manoj to find out the reason for his change.

The next day Prakash came to the school with so many questions in his mind. What could be the reason for his best friend's change? He could not arrive at any conclusion. So, he decided to watch Manoj during free times. After some time, Prakash noticed Manoj going with a group of boys. They sat on a far corner of the premises and began to discuss something. With pain Prakash realised that those were some bad boys in the school. He understood that Manoj was getting into bad company.

What could be done to help his best friend? Thought Prakash. He told his parents about it. They told him to pray for Manoj, and they would also pray for him. They told him that they would visit Manoj's family after a few days. In the school Prakash again tried to talk to Manoj like good friends, but he slipped away from him. Soon, Prakash and his parents visited Manoj's family. They had good fellowship. Prakash's father very wisely told Manoj's father about the matter. They prayed about it together. They decided to help Manoj in a certain way.

Manoj's father decided not to send his son to the school for some days. They took leave and went on a tour and visited some of their relatives. They bought some gifts for Manoj to show their love for him. He was enrolled in a music academy to learn music. His parents began to spend more time with Manoj. They encouraged him and congratulated him for his every small success. Prakash invited Manoj for special programmes, and introduced him to good friends. All of them continued to pray for Manoj.

Soon their prayers were answered. Manoj got interested in music. He opened up more with his parents. He again began to spend time with his best friend, Prakash. Manoj distanced himself away from the bad boys in the school. Manoj understood his mistake. He found true love and care in his family, and also from church. Prakash and his family were always helping and caring for him. Manoj gave up whatever bad habits he got from the bad company. He was again joyful. He was thankful to Prakash for helping him out of that situation. Prakash proved to be a true friend.

Dear child, like Prakash we should help our friends in times of their need. If they go away from us don't abandon them. It is the time when they need you most. You can also be a true friend like Prakash. Prayer: “Dear Lord, help me to be a true friend to my friends. Amen.” May God bless you!
