Delhi: On
14th November, 2009 The All India Association of
Philadelphia Churches, Delhi, popularly known as “The
Philadelphia Church” celebrated the Lord’s faithfulness
to their ministry in a spectacular thanksgiving ceremony
that lasted from 4 pm to 6.30 p.m. The programme was
held at the MCD Community hall of sector 18, Rohini,
Delhi and was attended by over 1000 persons belonging to
their Churches in Delhi and other prominent Christian
leaders and guests from the capital city of Delhi.
The Philadelphia Churches came to existence in 1992 when
Pastor Abraham Sahu obeyed the Lord and gave up his job
to focus in Church planting in North India. At present
they have 22 Churches in Delhi and their other Churches
exist in 16 other states of India. Their work extends to
Nepal and Sikkim too. |

The church not only focuses on extending the Kingdom of
God and planting of Churches in North India, but also
does a commendable job in educating children,
empowerment of women, promotion of health and hygiene,
including raising awareness and caring for those
suffering from HIV and AIDS. The Adult literacy and
micro-credit programme that the Church runs is an
exemplary one.
They have raised hundreds of exemplary Christian leaders
in their ministry – even from the slums of Delhi. The
Philadelphia Bible College, which offers degree up to
B.Th level through regular and extension has lots to
contribute in this connection. Each year their Churches
reach out to around 8-10,000 children through their
summer children camp known as ‘Baal Grishm Mahostav’.
To thank the Lord for enabling them to achieve all these
in the past 15 years, a befitting tribute and thanks
were offered to the Lord through worships, singing of
songs, dance and choreography by the worship team of the
Church and different groups and children from various
projects of the Church.
Rev.Dr. Abraham Sahu, the founder of the Church and also
that of the Full Gospel Trust of India – which is a
Christian Charitable Organization presented the history
of the ministry and how it has developed from a small
congregation of 5 persons in Jhadoda area of north Delhi
to its present strength. A pictorial presentation was
made by him while other persons from various churches
and projects offered other attractive programmes. Pastor
Robert Jeyaraj, the senior pastor of Assemblies of God,
north India and of the Global Christian Life Cenre
delivered messages challenging all present to be
obedient to the Lord. He spoke about how the Lord uses
His obedient servants to fulfill His plan through them
for His Glory.
On this occasion, a souveneir and a calendar for the
year 2010 were released. The church had also designed a
beautiful mug for this occasion. These three items were
released by Pastor Robert Jeyaraj, Bro. Manoj Mohanty of
Advancing Native Mission and Bro. Birender Yadav, the
Principal of Mount Olivet Schools.
On display were the ‘Samarth’ products that women in
Self Help groups had prepared under the People
Empowerment Programme of the Church – these included
various spices, phenyl, detergent soaps, candles,
Kashmiri handicrafts, pain balms etc. In the end people
enjoyed the snacks and drinks arranged for all.
All glory and honour is given to the Lord for His
enabling power and name that made it possible for the
Philadelphia Churches from growing from strength to
strength over the years. The vision of the Church is to
reach the lost and dying in North India and also in
other parts with word and deeds.
