AIZAWL, Nov 18:
Aizawl Bishop Stephen Rotluanga appealed to the
people here to end the ethnic violence in the western
belt of Mizoram triggered by the gunning down of Mizo
youth Zarzokima by Bru militants.
The Bishop, appealing to the Mizos to maintain peace and
harmony as before, said, “It is really sad that killing
of innocent people, arsons and intimidation had taken
place in the most peaceful State of India, Mizoram.”
Officials said more than 300 huts of Bru community along
the Mizoram-Tripura border had been torched by irate mob
in retaliation to the killing of Zarzokima. “Whatever
the cause be, it is unfortunate that we have the
tendency of violence and revenge. This is against
Christianity and the principles of Father of Nation
Mahatma Gandhi, who preached non-violence,” Rotluanga
added. Underlining that violence is not a solution, the
Bishop prayed that the conflict be solved across the
table. “Violence only brings unnecessary suffering to
innocent people. By resorting to violence, we have moved
backward in the path of peace and development,” the
Bishop added. (UNI)
