TWO SISTERS WHO LIVE WITHOUT STOMACHS
Leeds, December 10 -- Two sisters of
Indian origin, Ravindra Singh, 29, and Meeta Singh, 25,
can eat only small amounts of food at a time, for they
have no stomach. The sisters have had their stomachs
removed because they had the risk of dying from gastric
[related to the stomach] cancer [abnormal cells that
divide without control, which can invade nearby tissues
or spread through the bloodstream and lymphatic system
to other parts of the body. But they don’t regret it,
and say it’s a small price to pay for freedom from
cancer.

obtain long-term resident permits. The Year of European
Churches Responding to Migration 2010 will see churches
come together to advocate the right to long-term

UNITED NATIONS TO PROBE CLIMATE E-MAIL LEAK
LONDON, 5 Dec 2009 (AP): The United Nations will
conduct its own investigation into e-mails leaked from a

ARCHBISHOP CONCERNED AFTER US CHURCH ELECTS SECOND
GAY BISHOP
Los Angeles, Dec. 7, Christian Post: The
Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles has paved the way for
the second openly gay bishop in The Episcopal Church in
the US and the worldwide Anglican Communion. On
Saturday, the Rev Canon Mary Glasspool was elected to
the office of bishop suffragan after the seventh round
of voting gave her 153 clergy votes and 203 lay votes.
The number of votes needed to win was 123 in the
diocese’s clergy order and 193 in the lay order. The
next closest candidate, the Rev Irineo Martir Vasquez,
had 87 clergy votes and 177 lay votes.

UK CHRISTIAN HOTELIERS CLEARED OF ABUSING MUSLIM
LONDON (Reuters Life!) Dec 9, 2009 - A
Christian couple who run a hotel in northern England
were cleared on Wednesday of abusing a Muslim guest for
wearing a hijab and then insulting her beliefs. Benjamin
and Sharon Vogelenzang were accused of launching a
tirade against white British Muslim convert Ericka Tazi,
60, at their hotel in Liverpool where she had been
staying while she attended a course at a local hospital
in March.

WCC PAYS TRIBUTE TO NEWBEGIN ON 100TH BIRTH
ANNIVERSARY
Dec 9, 2009: The World Council of Churches (WCC)
paid rich tribute to Bishop Lesslie Newbigin in
commemoration of his 100th birth anniversary on December
8. Bishop Newbigin is a highly regarded English
Presbyterian valued for his role in establishing the
Church of South India (CSI), a union of Anglican and
Protestant churches, in September 1947. Newbigin also
played a pivotal role in the integration of
International Missionary Council and the WCC in 1961.
