AUSTRALIAN MISSIONARY HELD IN AP
November 30, 2009: Two Christian advocacy
groups have condemned the arrest of an Australian
missionary in Andhra Pradesh last week. The Global
Council of Indian Christians and All India Christian
Council reported that Australian missionary Paul Jemison
was arrested on 24 Nov. in Adilabad "on false charges of
forceful conversion".

GOVERNMENT SHOULD MAKE LAWS TO PREVENT FORCED
CONVERSION: KERALA HC
Kochi (Kerala), Dec 9: The Kerala High
Court Wednesday said the state government should
formulate laws to prevent forced religious conversions.
The observations were made by Justice K.T. Shankaran
after going through the report filed by Director General
of Police Jacob Punnoose on ‘love jihad’.

CHURCH CALLS FOR CONCERTED EFFORT TO FIGHT AIDS
December 2, 2009: On the occasion of World
Aids Day, the Catholic Church has called for a concerted
effort to combat HIV/AIDS in India. Archbishop Bernard
Moras, the chairman of the Catholic Bishops Conference
Commission for Health, stressed the need for NGOs,
charitable trusts and government bodies to unite for
greater care of HIV-infected victims.

21-DAY FASTING PRAYER AND REVIVAL MEETINGS CONCLUDE
Amritsar : The 21-day Fasting Prayer and
revival meetings organised by Bible Church of God (BCG),
Amritsar, concluded on December 6. The morning and
evening prayer meetings held from November 16 to
December 6 at the church premises were well attended by
the local people and members of the church. Such annual
21-day fasting prayer meetings are held since 2000.

SUSPECTED BLAST DAMAGES CHURCH IN TAMIL NADU
Police in Tamil Nadu are investigating if explosives
were used to damage a CSI church in Nagercoil on Sunday.
Officials found explosive chemicals near the church at
Gnanam Nagar in Thammaththukonam after it suffered a
minor damage in a suspected blast.

COLD WAVE IN ORISSA A CONCERN FOR DISPLACED

displaced by last year's violence in Orissa now faces
extreme cold due to sudden dip in temperatures.
According to an official of the Bhubaneswar
meteorological centre, an unexpected cold wave has hit
several western and interior regions of Orissa,
paralysing normal life.

INDIAN LUTHERAN YOUTH OPTING FOR CHARISMATIC CHURCHES
Dec 10, 2009: The enthusiasm and modern
worship styles of charismatic churches are swaying away
young Lutherans from parent churches. “Youth are
drifting away from their parent churches to charismatic
churches,” as the latter offer worship styles that fit
the young generation, said Ms Sofia M. Samuel from the
India Evangelical Lutheran Church, at the Asia
Pre-Assembly Consultation of the Lutheran World
Federation.
