New Delhi:
The Delhi Diocese of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of
Malabar treated Delhiites to an evening of joyful music
at the St. Columba's School Ground here on December 12,
2009. The musical concert “Gloria in Excelsis” was a
dedication of the Mar Thoma Church in Delhi f or World
Peace.
Earlier, on September 17, 2009 Chief Minister of Delhi,
Smt. Sheila Dikshit had unveiled the logo of the concert
in the presence of Most. Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma, the
21st Metropolitan of the Apostolic See of St. Thomas and
Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Paulos, the Bishop of Delhi
Diocese at her official residence. The logo depicts a
dove soaring high in the night skies amidst the stars
carrying music on its beaks; a true portrayal of peace
accomplished through music.
A choir of 100 singers, clad in eye soothing uniforms,
performed soul ringing Christmas carols while little
children performed choreography in harmony with the
carols. The Musical Concert was directed by well known
Musical Director Fr. Dr. Justin Panackal. Also a
cake-cutting ceremony was done by Rt.Rev. Dr. Abraham
Mar Paulos, Swami Agnivesh and Imam of New Delhi
Muhibullah Nadvi. symphonising secularism and
inter-religious harmony.
Dr.Kiran Bedi, IPS delivered the Christian message.
Eminent personalities from various fields including
politicians, cultural and religious leaders graced the
occasion with their presence.
The programme was organised by a committee led by
Diocesan Secretary Rev.Jayan Thomas and General Convener
Mr.N.Sunny.
