MAR THOMA CHURCH CONDUCTS CHRISTMAS MUSICAL CONCERT FOR WORLD PEACE
New Delhi: The Delhi Diocese of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar treated Delhiites to an evening of joyful music at the St.Columba's School Ground here on December 12, 2009. The musical concert “Gloria in Excelsis” was a dedication of the Mar Thoma Church in Delhi for World Peace. READ MORE

PM AGREES TO TABLE MISRA REPORT IN PARLIAMENT
New Delhi, Dec 10, 2009: In a positive decision that might further the cause of Dalit Christians, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has agreed to table the Ranganath Misra Commission report in the parliament. "We will place the report on the table of the House in this session," Singh on Wednesday told the Lok Sabha. "I take note of the sentiments of the members who have raised the demand.” READ MORE

CABINET APPROVES COMMUNAL VIOLENCE BILL
New Delhi, December 5, 2009: A highly-anticipated and significant legislation that checks communal violence across the country was Thursday approved in a Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The Communal violence (prevention, control and rehabilitation of victims) Bill, drafted in the year 2005, was passed in the cabinet meeting. The revised Bill may be tabled in Parliament’s ongoing session. It seeks to arm the Centre with wide-ranging powers to intervene in states in cases of communal violence.  READ MORE

Katihar, Bihar: The third annual Youth Camp organised by Real Challenge was held from 23 to 25 November at the Town Hall, Katihar. Youths from Bihar, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Haryana and Delhi participated in this Camp. November 30, 2009: Two Christian advocacy groups have condemned the arrest of an Australian missionary in Andhra Pradesh last week. The Global Council of Indian Christians and All India Christian Council reported that Australian missionary Paul Jemison was arrested on 24 Nov. in Adilabad "on false charges of forceful conversion". GOVERNMENT SHOULD MAKE LAWS TO PREVENT FORCED CONVERSION: KERALA HC
Kochi (Kerala), Dec 9: The Kerala High Court Wednesday said the state government should formulate laws to prevent forced religious conversions. The observations were made by Justice K.T. CHURCH CALLS FOR CONCERTED EFFORT TO FIGHT AIDS
December 2, 2009: On the occasion of World Aids Day, the Catholic Church has called for a concerted effort to combat HIV/AIDS in India. Archbishop Bernard Moras, the chairman of the Catholic Bishops Conference Commission for Health, stressed the need for NGOs, charitable trusts and government bodies to unite for greater care of HIV-infected victims. 21-DAY FASTING PRAYER AND REVIVAL MEETINGS CONCLUDE
Amritsar : The 21-day Fasting Prayer and revival meetings organised by Bible Church of God (BCG), Amritsar, concluded on December 6. The morning and evening prayer meetings held from November 16 to December 6 at the church premises were well attended by the local people and members of the church. SUSPECTED BLAST DAMAGES CHURCH IN TAMIL NADU
Police in Tamil Nadu are investigating if explosives were used to damage a CSI church in Nagercoil on Sunday. Officials found explosive chemicals near the church at Gnanam Nagar in Thammaththukonam after it suffered a minor damage in a suspected blast. READ MORE

TWO SISTERS WHO LIVE WITHOUT STOMACHS
Leeds, December 10 -- Two sisters of Indian origin, Ravindra Singh, 29, and Meeta Singh, 25, can eat only small amounts of food at a time, for they have no stomach. The sisters have had their stomachs removed because they had the risk of dying from gastric [related to the stomach] cancer [abnormal cells that divide without control, which can invade nearby tissues or spread through the bloodstream and lymphatic system to other parts of the body. But they don’t regret it, and say it’s a small price to pay for freedom from cancer. READ MORE

ARCHBISHOP CONCERNED AFTER US CHURCH ELECTS SECOND GAY BISHOP
Los Angeles, Dec. 7, Christian Post: The Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles has paved the way for the second openly gay bishop in The Episcopal Church in the US and the worldwide Anglican Communion. On Saturday, the Rev Canon Mary Glasspool was elected to the office of bishop suffragan after the seventh round of voting gave her 153 clergy votes and 203 lay votes. The number of votes needed to win was 123 in the diocese’s clergy order and 193 in the lay order. The next closest candidate, the Rev Irineo Martir Vasquez, had 87 clergy votes and 177 lay votes. UK CHRISTIAN HOTELIERS CLEARED OF ABUSING MUSLIM
LONDON (Reuters Life!) Dec 9, 2009 - A Christian couple who run a hotel in northern England were cleared on Wednesday of abusing a Muslim guest for wearing a hijab and then insulting her beliefs. Benjamin and Sharon Vogelenzang were accused of launching a tirade against white British Muslim convert Ericka Tazi, 60, at their hotel in Liverpool where she had been staying while she attended a course at a local hospital in March. WCC PAYS TRIBUTE TO NEWBEGIN ON 100TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY

The World Council of Churches (WCC) paid rich tribute to Bishop Lesslie Newbigin in commemoration of his 100th birth anniversary on December 8. Bishop Newbigin is a highly regarded English Presbyterian valued for his role in establishing the Church of South India (CSI), a union of Anglican and Protestant churches, in September 1947. Newbigin also played a pivotal role in the integration of International Missionary Council and the WCC in 1961.
