NAGA YOUTH ATTACKED IN PUNE
On 21 June, about 15 local men assaulted four Naga
students from the northeast state of India in Salisbury
Park, Pune. Speaking to EFI, Naga community, ex-officio,
adviser for students union, Pune, Rev.Achu Chang said,
"the incident made the northeast students in Pune
insecure and we are taking the matter to higher
authorities.”

PRIEST MURDERED IN KARNATAKA
A Catholic priest was found murdered today, July 30, at
Belthangady of Dakshina Kannada district. According to
UCA News, a Catholic news agency, the disrobed body of
Father James Mukalel, 39, was found on a roadside in the
morning of July 30. The priest met with the tragic death
when he was returning to his parish, after attending a
funeral of one of his former parishioners.

“WE KILLED SWAMI LAXMANANDA SARASWATI”: MAOIST COUPLE
23 July 2009: Claiming that they murdered VHP leader
Swami Laxmananda Saraswati, a young Maoist couple on
Wednesday surrendered before the police in Orissa.
Superintendent of Police AK Singh told media that a
rebel couple identified as Surendra Vekwara (19) and his
wife Ruby (18) from Rayagada district surrendered before
the police after divulging that they murdered Saraswati
last year.

India’s Manipur were served an un-constitutional order
by villagers. "Breaking the order will result in
consequences," warns the villagers. According to the
sources, “The incident happened, when two years old
Christian boy drowned in a village pond and died. The
body was buried on July 19 in a plot formally donated
for Christian cemetery by a family from neighbouring
Christian village.”

GOAN LAW ON CHURCH-STATE RELATIONSHIP NEEDS CHANGE
PANAJI: Goa Commissioner for NRI Affairs
Eduardo Falerio has said that the existing law in Goa
regulating the relations between the Church and the
State should be modified as had been done in the
Portugal. Mr. Faleiro, former External Affairs Minister,
was speaking at a conference on “Should there be a law
to protect the properties of the Church?” organised by
the All India Catholic Union (Goa) and Goa Cultural and

Hindu extremists allegedly from the Bharatiya Janata
Party (BJP) attacked children’s learning centre and
urged the Christians to vacate their place on July 19 in
Ambala, Haryana. According to an EFI correspondent, Rev.
Isaac Dutta, Hindu extremists attacked Pastor Daniel

AUGUST 23 TO BE OBSERVED AS ‘PEACE DAY’
New Delhi: August 23 must be remembered as
“Peace Day” to mark the murder of a Hindu fundamentalist
leader and the ensuing violence that targeted the
Christian community, says Archbishop of Orissa Raphael
Cheenath. Addressing reporters, the archbishop along
with other like-minded people, called for a peace day in
which the Indian people would “forget the past and build
a harmonious society.” “The gruesome murder of [Swami
Laxmananda Saraswati] destroyed peace and harmony. Let
us unite and build a cohesive society,” Archbishop
Cheenath said.
