Imphal : Christian minorities in Huikap village
under Yairipok Police station in North East India’s
Manipur were served an un-constitutional order by
villagers. "Breaking the order will result in
consequences," warns the villagers.
According to the sources, “The incident happened, when
two years old Christian boy drowned in a village pond
and died. The body was buried on July 19 in a plot
formally donated for Christian cemetery by a family from
neighbouring Christian village.”
After the burial, the father of the child and the pastor
of the church were summoned by the villagers and forced
to sign on a document that by 10 AM next day, the dead
body must removed from the place. After much request
from both the father of the child and the pastor, the
villagers have accepted not to remove the body from the
grave yard but gave stern order to the Christian
community of the village. Christians are harassed by
village authority every night since the incident
occurred.
The stern order given by the village includes that no
Christian dead body will be allowed to be buried in the
village.
The matter was reported to New Delhi-based Human Rights
Activist Mr. Madhu Chandra – Spokes Person of North East
Support Centre & Helpline and Regional Secretary of All
India Christian Council and he has submitted memorandum
to the Chief Secretary of Manipur to look into the
un-constitutional order of Huikap village headmen and
also to ensure safety to the Christian community in the
village.
“No village diktat can go beyond frame work of Indian
constitution and funda-mental rights of human beings.
The diktat of Huikap village authority to Christian
minority is un-constitutional and violation of
fundamental rights. The defaulters can face legal
consequences for the un-constitutional imposed on any
civilians,” says Mr. Chandra.
