MAOST THREAT : DISTORTIONS IN OUR DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
New Delhi: Recent developments have
confirmed what Prime minister Manmohan Singh declared
quite sometime ago that the Maoist insurgency
constituted the single biggest threat to the nation's
security. But more than a threat it should be seen as a
pointer to the distortions in our development process
and the urgency to give a pro-poor direction of the
development process to benefit the poor, dispossessed
and the oppressed.

CHRISTIANS WANT RIOT BILL CHANGED
Delhi, March 17, 2010 (UCAN): An
ecumenical group wants the Indian government to review a
proposed law that aims to contain sectarian violence in
the country. In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh the All India Christian Council says the Communal
Violence (Prevention, Control and Rehabilitation of
Victims) Bill, 2009 does not adequately address several
issues that disturb sectarian peace in the country.

SC: NO LAW AGAINST LIVE-IN RELATIONSHIPS
New Delhi 23 Mar 2010 (TOINS): The Supreme
Court on Tuesday observed that the live-in relationships
between the adult couples cannot be treated as an
offence. “When two adult people want to live together
what is the offence. Does it amount to an offence?
Living together is not an offence. It cannot be an
offence,” said a bench comprising Chief Justice K G
Balakrishnan, Justice Deepak Verma and Justice B S
Chauhan.

ANTI-CHRISTIAN VIOLENCE ERUPTS IN NCR
New Delhi, March 26, 2010: On March 25, a
Roman Catholic school in Faridabad was attacked and,
separately, a pastor and his companion were beaten by
Sangh Parivar activists in Ekta Vihar, Ghaziabad. Police
are investigating both incidents.
