Recently, one young ‘leader’ of our nation spewed venom
in his speeches. As usual a mindless crowd cheered his
every word and others sympathized with him and stood by
him. The whole nation watched in horror thinking ‘what
is happening in my country?’ As we think about such
young ‘hate’ professionals, we also need to know that
their love or hate has its own
consequence. These ideas
not just poison the mind of other youngsters,
but also have very serious implications in the society
we live in. It is very easy to hate and be violent but
one needs tremendous inner power to love and spread
harmony. What happened is just one such example of what
Jesus said two millennia before as recorded in the book
of Matthew “…For out of the overflow of the heart the
mouth speaks.”
Hate speeches have never been uncommon, it has always
been there. There were always a group of people who
hated others and openly professed hatred towards others
and instigated masses to do the same. However, most of
the people neither identified themselves or subscribed
to these hate ideologies. What is appalling is a section
of the ‘society’ is not just entertaining such hatred
but celebrating it! One would wonder on what moral
ground (I am not too sure if they have any morals) will
they question the ‘hatred’ of others belonging to other
communities/ countries.
We are surrounded by the horrors of history that came
out of hatred. We do not seem to learn lessons from our
tragic history. Hate kills…Hitler hated, we know what
happened to Jews and others; Saddam Hussein hated, we
know what happened to the Kurds; Slobodan Milosevic
hated, we know what happened to the people of Croatia,
Bosnia and Kosovo. Needless to say what
happened/happening in Ireland, Rwanda, Sri Lanka,
Palestine, Israel, Tibet, Romania, Poland, Gujarat,
Orissa etc! Do we want more of this? One wonders how a
young educated person from a highly respectable family
can stoop so down, spit fire and behave so cheaply.
Apparently, in his eyes, animals are more valuable than
a fellow human being! One should feel happy that at
least now the true faces and ideologies have come out in
open…not the nice faces and polite talks, the wolf
jumped out from the sheep’s clothing.
One would be surprised to find that these ‘haters’ think
that by hating a certain group of people, they are
showing their love for the other people. Or in other
words, they try to show their love to some section of
society by hating the other section. Now, think about
this...the other section of the society also is now
forced to think the same way. If this cycle continues on
and on there will only be hatred all around and never
ever an ounce of love. Everyone will claim to show their
love by using their hatred! Is this love? I wonder how
we can accept such ‘mentally challenged’ and ‘morally
corrupt’ people as our leaders. Worse still is the
thinking of some, that the qualification to be a leader
is to do such a drama!
Jesus said, “Make a tree good and its fruit will be
good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for
a tree is recognised by its fruit. You brood of vipers,
how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of
the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man
brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and
the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored
up in him. But I tell you that men will have to give
account on the Day of Judgment for every careless word
they have spoken. For by your words you will be
acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”(NIV).
My friends…any one, mentally sane or insane can shout
and instigate hatred. They are powerless cowards who
lack moral courage to love and unite the society. As
young people, we need to raise our standards and
love…not just our friends but those who call themselves
our enemies. Don’t get carried away by the sham
patriotism and promises of those who love to hate and
hate to love. Do we have to make criminals, gangsters
and haters as our representatives? Before you go to
ink…THINK!
