NAGMA
TO CONTEST LOK SABHA POLLS
Mumbai: Actor Nagma who made news by publicly
proclaiming her faith in Jesus Christ has decided to
enter active politics. In Mumbai’s North-West Lok Sabha
constituency, part of which was represented by actor
Govinda, Nagma has asked the Congress high command to
consider her candidature. The actress, who did not have
an impressive Bollywood stint, is popular among Bhojpuri
speaking north Indians who form a huge chunk of this
constituency.

MOTHER TERESA’S COMPANION PASSES AWAY
AHMEDABAD, Gujarat: Catholic nun Sister
Lawrentia, whose parents offered a part of their house
to the ‘Saint of the Gutters’ when she began her service
to
the poor, passed away here March 18. She was 75. “Sister
Lawrentia was a happy and pleasant person. I have met
her only a few times. But whenever I met her, she had a
welcoming smile on her face,” said Archbishop Stanislaus
Fernandes SJ, while leading her funeral Mass at the Holy
Family Church here March 20.

UGC RISES UP AGAINST RAGGING
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has
decided to notify new guidelines to make it binding on
all higher educational institutions to prevent ragging
or face harsh action, including de-recognition.
Educational Institu-tions nationwide are expected to
welcome this move in the wake of widespread criminal
activities in the guise of ragging. Gone are the days
when ragging was plain fun, another time-pass to get to
know other freshers and seniors. Freshers in today’s
colleges get tortured, molested, raped and even murdered
by their seniors who turn truant.

MANIPUR
BEGINS PRAYER CAMPAIGN
Imphal: Meitei Baptist Convention, Manipur
(MBCM) is organizing a Prayer Campaign for Peace in
Manipur from March 23. The pastors and church leaders of
the member churches of MBCM will gather at Imphal Youth
hostel from 23-27 March and to participate in the
campaign. The Prayer Campaign will be held in two
phases. First Phase will be a chain prayer from 5 PM of
March 23 till 5 PM of 30. The member churches and
individual members will join for one hour prayer.

NPCTI MEET
Mumbai: Christian leaders from all Indian
states met for the National Prayer and Church
Transformation Initiative (NPCTI) at New Life Community
Centre Borivili West, Mumbai, on March 4 and 5. NPCTI is
a federation of Churches and Missions in India committed
to finish the task of the Great Commission. Their main
intention is to encourage the church to pray and to do
outreach work.
