Christians in Manipur have decided to seek God's help in
transforming their troubled state. They have organised a
continuous prayer chain that will last till April 30,
2009.
Besides, The All India Christian Council, in association
with Evangelical Free Church of India, Meitei Baptist
Convention and several other Manipuri churches, is
planning to hold an allnight fasting prayer on May 29,
2009, for Manipur.
Manipur is a state that needs divine intervention. Its
2.5 million people are living in the shadow of death.
Everyday, an average of 2 to 3 persons get killed either
by security personnel or by separatists.
Law and order is a non existent thing in Manipur. Every
third day, you can expect a general strike in this
state. This has ruined the state's economy.
Education is badly affected by these strikes. As the
number of widows and orphans keep mounting, many of them
turn to prostitution to eke out a living. HIV or AIDS
threatens to spread like wildfire among the people.
Domestic violence and religious riots are other scourges
in Manipuri society.
For the past several decades, the state is under the
Army Special Powers Act. Yet, the government has failed
to bring in normalcy to Manipur. Instead of curbing
violence and controlling the separatists, soldiers of
the Indian army oppressed the poor Manipuri women.
The prayer movement in Manipur does not have any
political colour to it. Meitei Christians just want
peace in their land and they have come to realise that
only God can bring complete transformation.
Details about the prayer initiative can be had from
www.peace4manipur.blogspot..com. Organisers of this
prayer movement have requested mission organisations,
NGOs and churches to join in.
